sunday kind of love: dorm edition

I know so many of you are in this season of life right now, so first of all — congratulations. Whether your child is heading off to college for the first time or preparing for a new chapter away from home, it’s such a special milestone.

And after all of the celebrations end, the reality of moving your child into a dorm room tends to hit all at once. Suddenly you’re trying to make a tiny, temporary space feel comforting, functional, and a little like home.

This year, I wanted to put together a dorm edit that feels warmer, more elevated, and still practical for everyday college life. Just like I always say when decorating a home, the little details matter most — woven textures, soft lighting, layered neutrals, meaningful decor, and pieces that make daily routines feel easier and more comforting.

The goal isn’t perfection. It’s creating a space that feels peaceful, personal, and welcoming during such a big life transition.

Below are some of my favorites I compiled through my research. If I were creating a space, I would definitely check these items. I think what I would keep the most in my mind would be storage and comfort. Make it feel like a home for your child but with plenty of visible and hidden storage.

Your child’s dorm does not have to look perfectly styled to feel special. It just needs a few thoughtful pieces that make coming back to it feel comforting after long classes, late nights, and busy weeks.

I wanted this edit to feel timeless, cozy, and personal — less “college checklist” and more “home away from home.”
