In these slower summer days (especially mornings over here), I have really enjoyed spending time with my kids, not rushing around everywhere, and cooking dinner while watching an old 90s movie. It feels so nice to be able to enjoy these little moments and one of the reasons I love summer.
Here are a list of some of my favorite things this summer:
- watch movies
- include them in cooking/baking
- make homemade popcorn
- family walks/bike rides
- play in the sprinkler
- paint pictures and then hang on them on the wall
- dance parties
- board games
- read a chapter book at bedtime
- blow up mattresses in the den
- glow in the dark stars on the ceiling
Here are some of my top movies that we have been enjoying on rainy days or summer movie nights!

While planning for a week home with kids, or an entire summer, check out this list that will continue to keep them entertained.
- Blow up mattresses – I pull these out for movie nights sometimes to change the scenery!
- Cardboard coloring house – I usually grab one of these in the summer and around Christmas time – it takes them a while to color it and then they will play inside of it.
- Little splash pad – great for all ages
- Monopoly – classic board game for family game nights
- Playing cards – you can play everything from poker to go fish with these – I also like the waterproof ones for the beach, boat, or pool days
- Art supplies – easy to keep on hand and you can find many YouTube video tutorials on “how to paint ____” for kids and adults – just make sure you screen it before showing your kids
- Water table – really a hit with any age group
